ANNEX 4
CHILDREN'S THEATRE SHOP - KARDJALI

  1. Project description.
Children's Theatre Shop - Kardjali (CTS-K) will operate for the children from East Rodopi mountain - a region inhabited by different ethnic groups. The twelve months history of CTS-K, which organizes 32 children belonging to different ethnic and religious groups - Orthodox Bulgarians, Muslim Bulgarians, Turks and Gypsies, proved that by the means of theatre art and within the process of cultural association harmonic relationships between children from different ethnic groups are built. The magic of the theatre creates very special environment for contacts and dialogue between them. In this process of harmonizing the relations between the different ethnic groups in the region are included not only the children but their parents as well. In this theatre studio are given priority children of divorced parents or children form needy families. Their creative work and public appearances helped them overcome the distress form their inadequate social position.

2. Main objectives:
- establishment of close social relations between children of different ethnic and religious groups and between their parents as well;
- overcoming of ethnic and religious intolerance;
- establishment of spirit of tolerance towards people with different cultural and ethnic awareness;
- establishment of conditions for social and cultural integration of the population from mixed ethnic regions in East Rodopi.

3. Expected results: The political and economic changes in the Bulgarian society for the last years demand modeling of a new type of social relations in the Bulgarian society on individual and group levels, especially in regions with mixed population. Concentration of children of different ethnic and religious consciousness, together with children from separated or needy families and their unification for solving of common creative goals support the overcoming of separatist prejudices and will basically change their current understanding about "we - they" relations. This will psychologically and practically prepare them for their further role in democratic social processes, will contribute to their self-confidence as full bodied personalities, will integrate them to the culture of other societies, will teach them social and ethnic tolerance.

The experience of the twelve months activities of CTS-K shows that children's cooperation and their public activities in performances like "We, the Sparrows" by Jordan Radichkov and "Forgotten by Heaven" by E.Tomov have a positive impact on the world of adults - their parents and the wide audience in East Rodopi.

4. Prospects: The twelve months activities of CTS-K showed excellent results and provoked a wide social reaction in the town and the district. The 3-years project for transformation of CTS-K into Young Theatre Studio aims at implantation of permanent multipurpose abilities and knowledge in theatre art, training of young people for future professional qualification and better satisfaction of the cultural needs of the region as a whole.
