MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND PROJECTS, ACCOMPLISHED BY THE FOUNDATION
 
 

1. 1996/1999 - Presenting in Sofia and on national tour the performance
The Lady with the Puppy based on short-stories by A.P.Chekhov; production and performance: Marius Kourkinski. Over 100 performances have been realized already. For this performance, in 1997 Marius Kourkinski was awarded the "Golden Muse" prize for art by the Russian Embassy in Bulgaria. Same performance was filmed and broadcasted twice on the Bulgarian National Television, Channel 2. The play was shown at the International Summer Festival "Varnensko Liato'97". Attending the regular programme of the International Theatre Exchange in Prague - Theatre "Alfred ve dvore" (November 26-28'th, 1999). Guest-visit at the Bulgarian cultural Center "Haus Wittgenstein" - Vienna, Austria. The performance is realized with the kind assistance of the National Palace of Culture and the "Soros" Arts Center.

2. 1997 - Organizing the public presentation of the ballet show "Attraction" of the only Bulgarian company for modern dancing "Amaranth Dance Studio" on the stage of the State Satiric Theatre "Aleko Konstantinov". The show is realized together with the National Palace of Culture, the "Soros" Arts Center and the British Council for Culture.

3. February, 1997/99 - Preparing and carrying out of television programme with 30 min. duration, broadcasted twice monthly on Bulgarian National Television - Channel 1. The programme is dedicated to the activities and problems of NGO's in Bulgaria. (Annex 1)

4. June 1997 - Organizing the stay visit of group of professors from the Belgian Theatre Foundation "Deus ex machina", Brussels, headed by Catherine Brecheaux and conducting a training course on the system of Jaque Lecoque "Theatre of Gesture" during the "Summer Theatre University - Sliven'97".

5. 1997/98 - Producing and touring an author's performance of Marius Kourkinski titled The Gospel of Matthew, based on the Bible, with the participation of soloists of Goran Bregovitch's orchestra and "Philip Kutev" State Ensemble for Folk Songs and Dances: Snezhana Borissova, Lidia Dokova and Kuna Zheliazkova; the Dance Ensemble of the State School for Choreography; "Vitosha" Orchestra; The Dance Studio" and the actor Iavor Vesselinov. The performance was filmed and broadcasted twice on the Bulgarian National Television - Channel I. The performance was realized with the kind assistance of the "Soros" Arts Center and the Agency for Youth and Students Travels "Travel Byte". Performed on the stage of State Satiric Theatre "Aleko Konstantinov" and New Drama Theatre "Salza i Smiah".

6. 1997/98 - Organizing of charity shows, theatre, opera and other performances for the benefit of needy, aged people, neglected children, etc. Performing moppet shows in hospitals for children who suffer permanent injuries, chronic diseases, etc. The project is realized together with Sofia Film S.A. (Annex 2)

7. 1997/98 - Organizing of a national competition for children up to the age of 14 "I draw for the Theatre" and "I write for the Theatre". The competition is a part of the Foundation's programme for occupation with children by actively engaging them in the art process.

8. February 1998 - Setting up a Center for Theatre Management, with a purpose to popularize and apply more effective methods in the management of the theatre process, to encourage new ideas and initiatives in the domain of the theatre art. The Center acts in three areas: education, consultancy and production and distribution of theatre performances.(Annex 3)

9. 1998 - Promotion of Mrs. Lilia Abadjieva stage and music production of Gogol's "Marriage" on the stage of State Satiric Theatre "Al. Konstantinov". 10. 1998 - Promotion and touring of Mr. Dimitar Nedkov stage and music production of Shakespeare's "Comedy of Errors".

11. March 1998 - Organizing the first Bulgarian National Competition "Young Bulgarian Dramaturgy". Along with financial awarding, the Foundation financially promotes performances of the best plays and their show at international competitions. The first issue of the competition was attended by some 49 plays by 39 authors. Prizes were awarded as follows: First prize: "Beans" by Elin Rahnev; Second prize: "Brodnitza"("The Wanderer") by Petia Cherkezova; Third prize: "The Shoes" by Dimitar Zlatinov; Encouragement: "Sad Faces" by Boian Ivanov; Extra prize: "Night Twig" by Christo Dimitrov

12. 1998 - Promotion and touring of Mrs. Desislava Shpatova stage and music production of the play "A Don Juan's Love" written on Pushkin's and Dostoevski's works on the stage of State Satiric Theatre "Al. Konstantinov".

13. April, 1998/99 - Promotion and touring of Mr. Marius Kourkinski production The Blue Bird by M.Meterlink, a diploma performance of students 4'th grade at The National Academy for Theatre and Cinema Arts "Kr.Sarafov".

14. April 1998 - Organizing in a cooperation with the Handel's Society for Music in Bulgaria and "PRESTO" Music House on the grounds of the National museum "The Earth and the People" of a public concert of the camera ensemble "Musica Sacra", conducted by Ph.D. Yossif Gerdjikov, under the name Let us be together on Good Friday . Filming of the concert and distribution of the video-tape inside the country and abroad.

15. April 1998/2000 - Promotion and touring of Kamen Donev production of the play Mediterranean People on the stage of State Satiric Theatre "Al. Konstantinov", written by the same author. The project has been realized by winning a competition organized by the Theatre Art Center of The Ministry of culture and with the assistance of "Soros" Arts Centre in Sofia.

16. April 1998/99 - Promotion and touring of Mrs. Valeria Valcheva production "The Dictionary" as per Naiden Gerov in cooperation with Drama Theatre - Dimitrovgrad. The project has been realized by winning a competition organized by the Theatre Art Centre of The Ministry of culture.

17. April 1998 - Financial support to the Children's Group for modern ballet at "G.S.Rakovski" cultural club, Sofia, for attending The Belarussia International Festival for young talents "The Earth under White Wings". The Group has been awarded The Festival's First Prize.

18. April 30'th / May 3'rd - Organizing and financial support of The International Festival for Vanguard Music and Art - "SUB FEST - Sofia, May'98".

19. 1998 - Elaboration of a Project for acknowledgment and development of the Children's Theatre Studio in the town of Kardjali. The Studio actors belong to needy families of various ethnic origin (Bulgarians, Turks, Gypsies, Armenians). The project aims to promote and benefit to the idea for cultural integration of the different ethnic communities in Bulgaria.(Annex 4)

20. April 1998 - A project for production and touring of a full-length movie "Do you want to come with me", screen-write and director Marius Kourkinski.

21. May 1998 - Registration of Concept for Theatre Foundation in The National Cinema Centre as a "producer of movies and other audio-visual works".

22. May 1998 - Producing and touring of Vladimir Petkov's production of "The Woman as a Battle Field" by Mathei Visniak, in cooperation with Drama Theatre "Apostol Karamitev", Dimitrovgrad, and "Counter Point" theatre company. The performance is arranged with the kind assistance of "Pro Helvetia", The Art Council of Switzerland - cultural exchange East-West and is plaid on the stages of Drama Theatre - Dimitrovgrad and Small Town Theatre "That side of the Channel", Sofia.

23. May 1998 - Producing the first music album of the young singers group "The Mermaids" and organizing its first public appearances.

24. May 1998 - Organizing a working meeting and discussion "Practical Issues of the Theatre Reform" 27.05.1998.(Annex 5)

25. September 1998/98 - Producing and touring of the mono-play "Meeting with Marius Kourkinski", staged and performed by the author. 26. September 1998/99 - Producing and touring of Tankred Dorst "Me, Foierbach!", produced by Vladimir Petkov. A cooproduction with "Counter Point" theatre company on the stage of Small Town Theatre "That side of the Channel", Sofia. The performance was shown at the International Theatre Festival "Vratsa'99". The project has been carried out by wining a competition organized by The Theatre Art Centre of the Ministry of culture, "Goethe" Institute and Radio "Express".

27. January 1999/2000 - Producing and touring of The Man himself, based on works of Andrei Platonov, produced and performed by Marius Kourkinski on the stage of the State Satiric Theatre - Sofia. The performance was awarded with "Askeer'99" Prize for best men's role, Prize for author's performance at the Theatre Festival "Blagoevgrad'99 and First Prize for men's role at the International Theatre Festival "Vratsa'99". The play was shown at the International Summer Theatre Festival "Varna'99". The performance was carried out with the kind assistance of the Students and Youth Travel Agency "Unit colours".

28. February 1999/2000 - Producing and distribution in Bulgaria and abroad of the Bulgarian-French project The History of the Eye by George Bataille, Ivan Stanev production in cooperation with Theatre de la Manufacture, Nancy, France on the stage of the State Satiric Theatre. The performance was shown at the International Theatre Festival "Passages'99" in Nancy, the International Summer Theatre Festival "Varna'99" and the International Festival "Theatre in a Suitcase'99", Sofia. The performance was carried out by winning a competition organized by the National Theatre Center of the Ministry of culture and with the support of Arts' Development Fund within "Phare" programme, the "Soros" Arts Center - Sofia, the French Cultural Center - Sofia.

29. April 1999/2000 - Production and distribution of "Somewhere on the Road" - an alternative performance about the last dream of Curt Cobeine, author and producer Rossen Penchev. Performed in theatre-club "Mr. Punch" with the support of the "Soros" Arts Centre - Sofia.

30. April 1999 - Bestowing of prizes of the Second National Competition "Young Bulgarian Dramaturgy". In its second edition the competition was attended by 78 plays by 74 authors. Following prizes were awarded: First Prize - not given Second Prize- given to "The Pigeon" by Roumen Shomov Third Prize - given to "For the Fringes of the Circle or the Man who didn't say a Word" by Maria Stankova Encouragements: - "Under the Hill of Hope" byNevelina Popova - "Dome of Heaven" by Christo Dimitrov - "Those Hours before Sunrise" by Yasen Atanasov Special prize for "Philosophical rationalization of reality" by the name of Margarit Minkov: - "For the Fringes of the Circle or the Man who didn't say a Word" by Maria Stankova

31. May 1999 - Organizing the stay visit of group of professors from the Belgian Theatre Foundation "Deus ex machina", Brussels, headed by Catherine Brecheaux and conducting a training course on the system of Jaque Lecoque Theatre of Gesture for students from Theatre Department of New Bulgarian University (04-11 October 1999). The project is realized by the assistance of "Alter Ego-3" L.L.C.

32. October 1999 / 2000 - Producing and distribution of the jubilee performance-concert of Marius Kourkinski "Meetings with Marius". 33. October 1999 - Launching of the first stage of the building of the specialized Bulgarian theatre information fund.(Annex 7)
